Revise & Resub #10Queries Event

In preparation for the upcoming #RevPit event, the editors of Revise & Sub have decided to do a round of #10Queries via a Rafflecopter drawing opening February 16, 2018 and closing on February 20th, 2018. The winners will submit their query and first five pages for critique on the twitter hashtag. (Names will not be posted. Editors will send emails to winners regarding which pitch was theirs.) 2018 Nelson Algren Literary Awards Submissions Ending Soon!

Submissions for the 2018 Nelson Algren Literary Awards (sponsored by the Chicago Tribune) is ending on February 7, 2018 at 11:59pm CST. Entrants must be 18 years of age and submit their original short fiction of up to 8000 words.
Prizes
- One Grand Prize: $3,500.
- Four Finalist Prizes: $1,000.
- Five Runner-up Prizes: $500.

Sun vs Snow 2018

It’s that time of year again when Amy Trueblood and Michelle Hauck host Sun vs Snow! This is not a twitter contest, but a blog contest for unpublished writers. Last year they had 21 agents participating (half shown here and the other half shown here). Keep an eye on their blogs for agent listings for this year’s contest.
Get your submission ready via email and submit when the window opens on January 23, 2018 at 4pm EST. They only take the first 200 entries, so don’t wait to long. But if you’re worried you’ll miss the entry timeframe, Michelle has a chance to win a FREE PASS on her blog via rafflecopter and comment (deadline of January 19, 2018). Happy Writer Days $2000 Giveaway in Coaching and Classes

Hachette Imprint Open for Submissions!
Hodder & Stoughton, John Murray Press (Hachette Imprint) will be opening for unagented submissions on December 1, 2017 (12am GMT) and close on December 7, 2017 (11:59pm GMT) for THE FUTURE BOOKSHELF! Although this is an United Kingdom publisher, they will be taking international submissions for fiction and non-fiction. This is an exciting opportunity because big houses don’t often open their doors to unagented writers.
Some of the authors Hodder & Stoughton publishes is Stephen King, Martina Cole, Jodi Picoult, The Sidemen, Stieg Larsson, Trevor Noah, David Mitchell, Andrea Levy, Katie Piper, Mo Farrah, Graham Norton, and many more. Wouldn’t it be awesome to be one of the great writers added to this list?
If chosen, you will get paid an advance and royalties. They’ll set you up with an editor and publicist, as well as have a marketing campaign. So, you’ll get all the perks of a bestselling author! A few of the rules are:
- Must be over 18.
- An underrepresented writerly category (see their guidelines for descriptions).
- Fiction (any genre) and non-fiction works must be over 50,000 words.

New Visions Award – Middle Grade/Young Adult Manuscripts is Ending Soon

Tu Books, the middle grade and young adult imprint of Lee & Low Books will be closing submissions soon for the New Visions Award. Established in 2012, this award is given annually to an unpublished author of color for a middle grade or young adult manuscript. Previous winners include the award-winning Ink and Ashes as well as the forthcoming novels Ahimsa and Rebel Seoul.
Manuscripts may be novels or graphic novels in any fictional genre for children ages 8 to 12 or young adults ages 12 to 18. Manuscripts should address the needs of children and teens of color by providing stories the can identify with and which promote greater understanding of one another. Themes relating to LGBTQ+ topics or disabilities may also be included.
Contestants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered:
- Self-identify as a person of color or a Native/indigenous person.
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of entry.
- Be a resident of the United States.
- Not have had a middle grade or young adult novel published.
The Award winner receives a cash prize of $1,000 and their standard publication contract, including their basic advance and royalties for a first time author. An Honor Award winner will receive a cash prize of $500.

Deadline Approaching for Futurescapes Writing Contest
Futurescapes is seeking short stories set in a near-future city where significant strides have been made toward improving air quality, climate adaptation, or even net positive impacts on climate and air quality. Thus, their theme for 2017 is “Blue Sky Cities.”
Here’s a breakdown of the important stuff:
- You’ll need a work of short fiction up to 8,000 words.
- No fee to enter for first entry, but you can submit a second for a fee.
- $2000 for first prize.
- $500 for five runners-up.
- Publication in an anthology.

LOUISE MERIWETHER FIRST BOOK PRIZE

Once again, the Feminist Press has partnered with TAYO Literary Magazine to for a contest seeking the best debut books by women and nonbinary writers of color to celebrate author Louis Meriwether’s achievements. This contest is for first time authors. Submit your complete manuscript of fiction (including novels and short story collections) or narrative memoir between 50,000 and 80,000 words. Capture their attention with your words to receive $5,000 and a publishing contract from the Feminist Press!

Scholastic’s Graphix Novel Contest

The deadline is fast approaching for Scholastic’s Graphix Imprint contest. Up to FIVE talented debut graphic novelists will win the chance to be published by Scholastic’s Graphix imprint. The editors involved in selecting submissions have a focus on creator-driven graphic novels appropriate for children and teens that bring exceptional art, rich content and strong storytelling to realistic fiction, memoir, fantasy and beyond.
Winners will receive an offer to publish their work with Scholastic and a $15,000 advance! Be sure to check out the complete guidelines before entering. And take note, graphic novelists need to hurry because the deadline is April 1, 2017. (I’m not a-foolin’!)
