Delaware Division of the Arts Individual Artists Fellowships. Deadline Approaching

Delaware Division of the Arts Individual Artist Fellowships (FY 2022) is a competitive award based on quality as demonstrated by creativity and skill in an art form. Applications are accepted in eighteen artistic disciplines in the fields of choreography, folk art, jazz, literature, media arts, music, and visual arts. Applicants can be emerging or established artists. (I think these are one year.) The Masters Fellowship is available in select disciplines on a three-year rotating basis to artists who meet specific criteria.

Judges are anonymous. Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation assists with the administration of the program. Awards are $3,000 for Emerging; $6,000 for Established; and $10,000 for Masters. Deadline to submit is August 1, 2021. Artists MUST have been a resident of Delaware one year prior to submission, and has to remain a resident of Delaware during the entire fellowship. Chicago Writing Workshop

Per the Boston Writing Workshop website, this writing event (October 3, 2020) is a wonderful opportunity to get intense instruction over the course of one day, pitch a literary agent or editor (optional), get your questions answered, and more. Note that there are limited seats (200) at the event, even with it online.

25th Anniversary: Virginia Festival of the Book

The Virginia Festival of the Book brings readers and writers together for a five-day celebration of books, reading, literacy, and literary culture. The annual festival will be held March 20-24, 2019. Programs range from traditional author readings and book signings to children’s programs and hands-on workshops. All programs are open to the public and, with the exception of a few ticketed events, the majority of Festival programs are free to attend.

According to the post on Publishers Marketplace, Paradigm Talent Agency is seeking a highly motivated and qualified assistant to support an agent in their Book Publishing department. In addition to being organized and efficient, candidates should possess a strong understanding and interest in the entertainment industry and will be expected to thrive in a fast-paced, highly competitive and demanding environment.

This full time position will offer health, dental, and 401K. It lists the location as New York/CA, so I’m not certain exactly where it will be. But with offices in Los Angeles, New York City, London, Monterey, Nashville, San Diego, Berkeley, Austin, Chicago, and Toronto, Paradigm provides representation with a personal and purposeful touch to clients across various areas of entertainment including television, music performances, motion picture, theatre, book publishing, digital, commercial/voiceover, content finance, media rights, brand partnerships and beyond.

Some current author’s represented by Paradigm Talent Agency are Stephen King and Danielle Steele. They also represent famous actors as Adrien Brody, Antonio Banderas, and actress Jada Pinkett Smith.

LOUISE MERIWETHER FIRST BOOK PRIZE

Feminist Press

Once again, the Feminist Press has partnered with TAYO Literary Magazine to for a contest seeking the best debut books by women and nonbinary writers of color to celebrate author Louis Meriwether’s achievements. This contest is for first time authors. Submit your complete manuscript of fiction (including novels and short story collections) or narrative memoir between 50,000 and 80,000 words. Capture their attention with your words to receive $5,000 and a publishing contract from the Feminist Press!

Helsinki, Finland was selected to host the 75th Worldcon on August 9th through 13th 2017. They will be celebrating their national centennial. They invite you to explore their unique culture, a blend of east and west. From museums to music, fashion to food, art and design, Finland has a lot to offer.

Worldcon 75 will feature writers, artists, musicians, editors, publishers, critics, scientists, and fans with interests across the full spectrum of science fiction and fantasy.

GUESTS OF HONOR

John-Henri Holmberg (born 1949 in Stockholm) is a Swedish author, critic, publisher and translator, and a well-known science fiction fan.
Nalo Hopkinson (born in 1960 in Kingston) is an award winning Jamaican author.
Johanna Sinisalo (born in 1958 in Sodankylä) is an award winning Finnish science fiction and fantasy writer. She is also a successful screenwriter.
Claire Wendling (born 1967 in Montpellier) is a French comics artist, illustrator, and cover artist.
Walter Jon Williams is an award-winning American author, with strong ties to Finland (all his grandparents were born there).

There are many other guests like NASA Astronaut Dr. Kjell N. Lindgren and science guest Professor Ian Stewart. There are over 120 authors, artists, musicians, editors, publishers, critics, and scientists attending. So, you never know who you’ll be having coffee with in the morning. The Iceland Writers Retreat states that over the course of the retreat, each participant is enrolled in a total of five two-hour small-group writing workshops (max. 15 participants) led by internationally acclaimed authors, a Q&A panel with all faculty, and numerous readings and social functions. But there are only a few seats left, so you better hurry!

Each of our Featured Authors teaches two different workshops, and you have plenty of time to interact with faculty, including those with whom you do not have any workshops. The retreat takes place April 5-9, 2017 and costs approximately ISK 289,000 (approximately $2479 US dollars). Prices exclude airfare and airport transportation.
