Happy Father’s DAy

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers in the world. For all the times you kept going when everyone else became ill, good job! For all the troubled times you were strong and everyone around you crumbled, I’m proud of you. For every dream you set aside to help another achieve theirs…you are awesome! For every person you tucked into bed to chase nightmares away and lost your own sleep, go you!

But this is YOUR day! It’s okay to sit, sleep, read a book, let the grass not get mowed, not pick up your clothes, let someone else fix the car, or have another person grill the burgers. Rest, because you deserve it. And it’s okay if you want to seize life and do something spontaneous or out of character, or simply be yourself. Take a hike, explore a cave, go fishing, bungee jump, repel, ride a motorcycle, pick some flowers, or maybe knit a scarf (like Russel Crowe). Take the kids or don’t take the kids. Seize your day because you are DAD and you are APPRECIATED!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers in the world. For all the times you kept going when everyone else became ill, good job! For all the troubled times you were strong and everyone around you crumbled, I’m proud of you! For every dream you set aside to help another achieve theirs…you are awesome! For every person you tucked into bed to chase nightmares away and lost your own sleep, go you! And for keeping strong during this crazy pandemic, way to go! (Side note: If you had some emotional moments where you found it hard to keep it together, this is okay too! You deserve to have your moments, even if it’s huddled in a corner sobbing like a mad woman. Take those moments and then recharge. You can do it!)

But this is YOUR day! It’s okay to sit, sleep, read a book, let the dishes sit, not pick up any clothes, let someone else fix supper, or have another do the laundry. Rest, because you deserve it! And it’s okay if you want to seize life and do something spontaneous or out of character. Take a hike, explore a cave, climb a wall, bungee jump, repel, or ride a bike along the beach. Take the kids or don’t take the kids. Seize your day because you are MOM and you are APPRECIATED!

Helsinki, Finland was selected to host the 75th Worldcon on August 9th through 13th 2017. They will be celebrating their national centennial. They invite you to explore their unique culture, a blend of east and west. From museums to music, fashion to food, art and design, Finland has a lot to offer.

Worldcon 75 will feature writers, artists, musicians, editors, publishers, critics, scientists, and fans with interests across the full spectrum of science fiction and fantasy.

GUESTS OF HONOR

John-Henri Holmberg (born 1949 in Stockholm) is a Swedish author, critic, publisher and translator, and a well-known science fiction fan.
Nalo Hopkinson (born in 1960 in Kingston) is an award winning Jamaican author.
Johanna Sinisalo (born in 1958 in Sodankylä) is an award winning Finnish science fiction and fantasy writer. She is also a successful screenwriter.
Claire Wendling (born 1967 in Montpellier) is a French comics artist, illustrator, and cover artist.
Walter Jon Williams is an award-winning American author, with strong ties to Finland (all his grandparents were born there).

There are many other guests like NASA Astronaut Dr. Kjell N. Lindgren and science guest Professor Ian Stewart. There are over 120 authors, artists, musicians, editors, publishers, critics, and scientists attending. So, you never know who you’ll be having coffee with in the morning.
