DC Comics Talent Development Workshop 2018

Wow! If you’ve ever dreamed of writing for DC Comics, this is your chance. But please note, this is for writer’s who’ve been published. However, the written work does not have to be a comic. They’ll also accept up to two published fiction works that’ll highlight an authors skill as a possible DC writer. By end of the workshop, the participant(s) may obtain a position writing on one of the DC Comic book series.

Submissions open March 1st, 2018 and ends March 31, 2018. They express on the website that files can be large to upload, so don’t wait until the last minute to try. They will not accept resubmission or changes after the deadline. No exceptions.

Worldcon 75

Helsinki, Finland was selected to host the 75th Worldcon on August 9th through 13th 2017. They will be celebrating their national centennial. They invite you to explore their unique culture, a blend of east and west. From museums to music, fashion to food, art and design, Finland has a lot to offer.

Worldcon 75 will feature writers, artists, musicians, editors, publishers, critics, scientists, and fans with interests across the full spectrum of science fiction and fantasy.

GUESTS OF HONOR

  • John-Henri Holmberg (born 1949 in Stockholm) is a Swedish author, critic, publisher and translator, and a well-known science fiction fan.
  • Nalo Hopkinson (born in 1960 in Kingston) is an award winning Jamaican author.
  • Johanna Sinisalo (born in 1958 in Sodankylä) is an award winning Finnish science fiction and fantasy writer. She is also a successful screenwriter.
  • Claire Wendling (born 1967 in Montpellier) is a French comics artist, illustrator, and cover artist.
  • Walter Jon Williams is an award-winning American author, with strong ties to Finland (all his grandparents were born there).

There are many other guests like NASA Astronaut Dr. Kjell N. Lindgren and science guest Professor Ian Stewart. There are over 120 authors, artists, musicians, editors, publishers, critics, and scientists attending. So, you never know who you’ll be having coffee with in the morning. Scholastic’s Graphix Novel Contest

The deadline is fast approaching for Scholastic’s Graphix Imprint contest. Up to FIVE talented debut graphic novelists will win the chance to be published by Scholastic’s Graphix imprint. The editors involved in selecting submissions have a focus on creator-driven graphic novels appropriate for children and teens that bring exceptional art, rich content and strong storytelling to realistic fiction, memoir, fantasy and beyond.

Winners will receive an offer to publish their work with Scholastic and a $15,000 advance! Be sure to check out the complete guidelines before entering. And take note, graphic novelists need to hurry because the deadline is April 1, 2017. (I’m not a-foolin’!)

MidAmeriCon II: THE 74th WORLDCON

MidAmeriCon II

Kansas City, MO will be hosting the 74th World Science Fiction Convention (MidAmericCon II) at the Kansas City Convention Center Wed to Sun, August 17-21, 2016. You can meet some of your favorite authors, illustrators, and more at this fantastic event. Even more exciting, George R. R. Martin, the author of Game of Thrones, will be participating.
