Nothing soothes the writerly soul than a good twitter pitch party! This Thursday on September 3, 2020 is the infamous #PitMad founded by Brenda Drake, ran now by Managing Director Sonia Hartl, and a full committee (yeah, it’s grown that much!). Avengers Of Colour Mentorship

Avengers Of Colour

Avengers of Colour is a mentorship program created by faridah àbíké-íyímídé for unagented writers of color who are ready to query but need help with their query package. Winners will receive professional help from experienced (agented and traditionally published) authors of color. Feedback will be given on editing the authors first 25 pages of their manuscript, query letter, synopsis and pitches.

Manuscripts must be finished though the query package doesn’t have to be perfect. The mentors will help with that, as long as writers are near ready to query. Current mentors are:

Submissions open August 27, 2020 and close August 31, 2020. The link to the application will go live on the Avengers Twitter at Midnight EST / 5am GMT. Be sure and read the complete guidelines! As always, good luck!

LatinxPitch for Kidlit Event

LatinxPitch is a kidlit pitching event for creators of children’s literature who belong to the Latinx community. The event was created to raise up Latinx voices and increase a diverse representation in children’s literature. All kidlit Latinx unagented and agented authors and/or illustrators are permitted to participate. Kidlit includes board books, picture books, chapter books, middle grade, graphic novels and young adult.

The event will take place on Twitter September 15, 2020 from 8am to 8pm EST. Be sure to use the hashtag #LatinxPitch. Agented authors and illustrators should check with their agents before participating and must include the hashtag #Editor to indicate they are looking for an editor and not an agent. #SFFpit Pitch Event For Writers

It’s that time of year again for science fiction and fantasy writers to polish their pitches for Dan Koboldt’s #SFFpit writing contest on twitter! It runs on July 29, 2020 between 8am-6pm EST. This contest allows 10 pitches total and Dan asks that you use them wisely! As usual, it needs to be a 280 character pitch for twitter including the hashtag #SFFpit. For all the rules, including how to properly insert the age group and category, go here. And remember to research any agents or editors that favorite your tweet because ANY ONE can trawl the feed!

PitDark Pitch Contest Hosted by Jason Huebinger

This cool twitter pitch party will be May 21, 2020 and is hosted by author Jason Huebinger, the creator of #PitDark. This is one of my favorite contests because it’s strictly for manuscripts with darker elements, which is soooo down my alley. The event is between 8am and 8pm EST. Picture Book Party

Holy-moly! It’s another picture book contest. Things are looking up for the PB writers and illustrators, indeed. On March 9, 2020 Michelle Hauck, along with Mindy Alyse Weiss, will host a Picture Book Party. Submissions will open at 3:30pm EST and will remain open for two hours. You need to have a completed and polished PB manuscript and illustrations are encouraged to be submitted (if you’re an illustrator).

#FaithPitch Twitter Event for Faith-Based Fiction and Non-fiction

A Twitter pitch event exclusively for faith-based fiction is being hosted by Little Lamb Books on February 27, 2020 between 8am – 8pm CST. This is for board books, picture books, middle grade, young adult, and adult fiction that fall under the categories of inspirational, faith-based, biblical worldview, or Christian. Different denominations, ethnicities, a POV in this niche are encouraged. Be sure to use the hashtag #FaithPitch and only pitch 4 times per manuscript during the pitch window. (Maximum of 4 manuscripts are permitted.)
