SavvyAuthors Autumn Pitchfest

Agents and editors are taking live pitches on the SavvyAuthors blog! What you will need is a three line pitch (unless stated differently on their personal pitch page). Be sure to state the title, genre, word length, and your author name. Then post your pitch below that information. The format should look like this:

Title: Galli Manor Ghost
Genre: Middle Grade Paranormal
Length: 48,000 words

Agnes plays pretend in an old manor to keep her father’s memory alive and learns she must solve the murder of an eight-year-old ghost—daughter of Franz San Galli, the inventor of the radiator. Her non-believing brother wants her to grow up but she must convince him to acquire his help. After all, it’s not safe to play in secret passages and hidden rooms when a sinister specter threatens her.

LatinxPitch for Kidlit Event

LatinxPitch is a kidlit pitching event for creators of children’s literature who belong to the Latinx community. The event was created to raise up Latinx voices and increase a diverse representation in children’s literature. All kidlit Latinx unagented and agented authors and/or illustrators are permitted to participate. Kidlit includes board books, picture books, chapter books, middle grade, graphic novels and young adult.

The event will take place on Twitter September 15, 2020 from 8am to 8pm EST. Be sure to use the hashtag #LatinxPitch. Agented authors and illustrators should check with their agents before participating and must include the hashtag #Editor to indicate they are looking for an editor and not an agent. #PBPitch is Coming!

It’s time for another PBPitch (picture book) twitter party using the hashtag #PBPitch! So, if you write or illustrate picture books, this is the event for you. This party will take place June 20 2019 from 8am-8pm EST. But remember, anyone can troll the feed, so be sure and do your research! There will be legitimate agents and editors popping in and out, including those that haven’t confirmed their attendance. (You can visit the PBPitch website for a list of over 100 agents that represent picture books.)

Be sure and only pitch once before 2pm and once after! (Yes, twice is all you get per manuscript!) If you’re an illustrator, you can attach an image to the pitch. Little, Brown Emerging Artist Award

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will be closing submissions for their Emerging Artist Award on June 7, 2019. The goal is to develop high quality children’s picture books that resonate with readers of diverse backgrounds. So if you haven’t completed your mock up to send, get it done, ASAP! The award includes:

  • American Express® gift cards totaling $1,500
  • Round-trip travel for the winner to New York City
  • A day at LBYR’s offices in New York
  • Lunch with an editor, an art director, and the Artist Mentor.
  • An in-person portfolio review by the Artist Mentor and the LBYR publishing staff.
  • A tour of the office
  • Opportunity for the winning submission to be reviewed by LBYR’s editorial team for possible future publication.

SCBWI Don Freeman Grant

SCBWI Grant and Award Logos

According to the webpage, the Don Freeman Grants are available to all members of the SCBWI, regardless of membership level, who are working on a picture book or their portfolio. They are not available for projects on which there is already a contract.

Two grants of $1,000 each will be awarded annually. One grant to a published illustrator and one to a pre-published illustrator. The money may be used in any way to help you complete your project. Acceptable uses include: purchasing art supplies, enrollment in workshops or conferences, courses in advanced illustrating or writing techniques, travel for research or to expose work to publishers/art directors, or childcare.
