2017 Query Kombat Free Passes & Contest Information

Query Kombat is approaching and the hosts are offering free passes. Each host has their own rules on how to enter to win a free pass. Go to the individual websites by May 15th, 2017 to learn how:

As for the contest itself, submissions are between May 17-19, 2017. (Sorry, the site doesn’t say what time zone, but I’m pretty certain it’s one of the U.S. zones, most likely EST.) Query Kombat is a bracket style competition where 64 query letters and first pages are matched against each other until only one is left. There are six rounds of competition that last the entire month of June and our expert judges leave notes and determine the winners. Agents request from the entries between the 1st and 2nd round, but there’s a catch. No agent requests are revealed until an entry is knocked out of the competition. Entries are known by their fun nicknames. Surviving entries are allowed to revise twice over the six rounds.

Submissions are for all genres in middle grade, young adult, new adult, and adult. For submission instructions, go here. Not only can writers get their query polished but they might just land an agent with over 30 participating!

As always, good luck!

Last Day for Query or First Page Workshop via Brenda Drake

B-workshop

Brenda Drake and her team have put together to have a free query or first page critique workshop to help authors prep for PitchWars! During May, June, and July, Pitch Wars mentors will be helping writers shine up their query or first page. They will be posted after being critiqued on the blog, so only enter if you’re willing to have everyone see it.

They have 80 query spots and 80 first page spots. Whoa, that’s a lot! But only you’re only allowed to choose one and enter your information.

This is for all genres in the middle grade, young adult, new adult, and adult categories of fiction. Your manuscript does not have to be complete to enter. Winners will be announced April 17th and will receive an email, so be ready to submit your sample for critique immediately. But today is the last day to enter, so hurry to get a chance to shine that query or first page!

As always, good luck!

Revise & Resub Contest

If you haven’t heard, the Revise & Resub contest is newly created for writers looking to win a complete and free editing of their manuscript. Although their main goal is to help authors polish their stories, they’ll showcase the winners finished projects on the website and agents are welcome to attend! So, spread the word.

Because the Pitch To Publication editors found themselves with open availability because P2P got postponed, they created this contest to still give writers the opportunity to win edits. Yay! The submission window opens April 7, 2017 at noon EDT and closes April 9, 2017 at 11:59 PM EDT.

You can visit the site for a complete list of editors. To learn the submission guidelines, go here. As always, good luck!

ON THE BLOCK CONTEST

Authoress

Oh I just love literary contests that help writers sign with agents. Don’t you? Here is another great one hosted by Authoress on her blog Miss Snark’s First Victim. The contest is called ON THE BLOCK and submissions open September 8, 2016 from 8am-10pm (EDT). That’s next week peeps!

This is for polished and completed manuscripts only. Please know there is an entry fee of $21 (US) payable via Paypal. (A lot of work goes into these contests!) Authoress is accepting middle grade, young adult, new adult and adult fiction manuscripts only. (Sorry, no picture books, poetry, and narrative non-fiction.) Be sure to go to Miss Snark’s First Victim to find the participating agents and submission guidelines.
