For all you lovers of adult fiction or non-fiction, you’ll be excited to learn that McIntosh & Otis is seeking a remote intern. Applicants should have a strong interest in book publishing and be savvy readers and strong writers who have office experience. Intern will be responsible for reading submissions and writing evaluations of adult fiction and non-fiction manuscripts. In addition, the intern will assist the existing support staff of the department, handle mailings, filing, and other day to day tasks. The internship will also include administrative tasks such as scanning and copying, but the goal is to create an environment where students will learn firsthand about an agency’s role in book publishing. They would like an intern to work 12-18 hours per week and to commit to a 3 month term, but they can be extremely flexible with your schedule.

Length of the 3 months internship begins late August to early September and ends in December, 2020.
Current undergraduates strongly preferred.
Modest stipend available.
Remote
Additional requirements: voracious reader, strong writer, interested in adult fiction and non-fiction, organized, enthusiastic, previous office experience preferred.

The remote internship is offered by Foundry Literary + Media for the fall of 2020. This is an exciting opportunity, but candidates must be working towards a bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree. Recent college graduates may also apply for the position. However, no experience in publishing is required. A two day commitment is desired with work and academic schedules accommodated.

This is for people with a love of reading who are interested in entering the publishing world. The internship will provide experience in many different sides of the publishing industry, including editorial, foreign rights, and filmed media. Projects may include reading and reporting on manuscripts, assisting with editorial submissions, writing coverage of screenplays and manuscripts being considered for film adaptation, drafting posts for Foundry’s social media platforms, and researching new book ideas and potential authors, among others.

I have been quiet for several weeks because I have felt overwhelmed between my uncle dying, Coronavirus, worrying about my job, and distressed about police brutality. But honestly, I think my brain started shutting down when the Pandemic struck. Then, as things progressed with continued bad news, I became numb. But it’s time to officially announce my stance. I support the Black Lives Matter movement. I might lose some followers, but I won’t need to mingle with those racist piece of poops anyway. Hopefully, I will gain new followers with amazingly diverse backgrounds!

Since I am a writer, I thought one of the ways I could show support is by posting some books by black authors. And since my taste revolves around the strange, most (not all) of these stories have strange creatures, ghosts, zombies, witches, mermaids, dragons, aliens, cursed people, super heroes, or people full of magical skills! If you know more, please feel free to mention them in the comments below.

Coffee House Press is looking for an intern for the spring 2020 semester. The internship will introduce you to small literary publishing, and will give you skills to transfer to larger publishing houses and other careers, both in the arts and elsewhere. Applicants should be organized, reliable, efficient individuals interested in a publishing career.

The hours are flexible, averaging 12–15 hours per week over the course of approximately four months for a total of at least 200 hours. At the completion of the internship, interns receive a $1,200 stipend, $100 worth of discounted Coffee House titles, and a discount on all future purchases.

INTERN TASKS:

Reading and reporting on submissions
Manuscript fact-checking
Proofreading
Acquisitions and permissions research
Filing and other assorted administrative duties (such as answering phones and taking messages)
Researching donor and grant prospects
Database upkeep, including spreadsheets and database software
Writing copy for newsletters, reading group guides, and the CHP website
Coordinating and assisting with mailings (galleys, press releases, catalogs, etc.)
Assisting with upkeep of publicity materials
Light page layout and editing of press materials, signs, and other documents
Providing support before and during events
Assisting with direct sales in the office and at events
Website maintenance
Other tasks as assigned

This internship is located in Minneapolis, MN and will not be remote. Submissions are from September 15, 2019 from November 1, 2019 with the internship lasting January through April of 2019. To apply, send:

Dystel, Goderich & Bourret is looking for organized, reliable, efficient individuals to be interns and are interested in learning about the publishing industry. Candidates should be committed to devoting 15-20 hours per week in-house (New York). Applicants should be interested in learning the specifics of agenting, open to reading widely, and are detail-oriented, organized, and have critical reading and research skills.

Intern Responsibilities:
• Assist with reading slush, partial, and full manuscripts.
• Request and evaluate manuscripts.
• Write readers reports.
• Assist with contracts, royalty statements, and author correspondence as needed.
• Administrative duties, including but not limited to research, copyediting, filing, scanning, answering phones, data entry.

This will be for one semester from January until mid-May 2020 and is unpaid. Requirements:

• Well-read across different genres
• Basic computer skills

Contracts Internship

This internship gives a unique view at the behind-the-scenes workings of the publishing industry, while providing excellent experience in the backend duties of an agency. The Intern will spend time familiarizing things with the foreign rights and contracts departments, and keeping records up-to-date and organized. Also, the opportunity will be given to read and evaluate submissions if interested. This internship is ideal for anyone with an interest in business or contract law and how they intersect with the creative industry.

The intern will spend time working on various special projects that will greatly increase the understanding of how the publishing industry works. Projects may include updating royalty statement records, assisting in contracts tracking, drafting posts for Foundry’s social media platforms, and managing the distribution of foreign editions.

25th Anniversary: Virginia Festival of the Book
