The Restless Books Prize for New Immigrant Writing Deadline Approaching

Restless Books

The Restless Books Prize for New Immigrant Writing searches for stories written by a first-generation immigrant. The publisher alternates years between fiction and non-fiction. This year they are searching to publish a tale of fiction. A few of the guidelines are:

Completed fiction manuscript, or book-length collection of short stories.
Candidates must be first-generation residents of their country.
All submissions must be in English.
Fiction candidates must not have previously published a book of fiction in English.
Only one submission per candidate per submission period.

The Prize:

$10,000 advance and publication by Restless Books in print and digital editions.

The deadline for Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest is approaching. All unpublished entries must be received by March 23, 2018. This is also a chance to get feedback on your work. There are twelve categories:

mainstream
historical
romance/women’s fiction
mystery/thriller
sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal
young adult
middle grade
nonfiction/memoir
poetry
short story
children’s picture/chapter book
adult short topics (articles/essays/memoir)

There are three monetary prizes:

FIRST PLACE: $600
SECOND PLACE: $300
THIRD PLACE: $100

Insecure Writer’s Support Group is hosting a twitter pitching contest on January 18, 2018 from 8am-8pm EST. This is for completed and polished manuscripts only! Be sure to pitch only once per hour and include the hashtag #IWSGPit. (As with all pitching events, do NOT fave a pitch unless you are a literary agent or publishing editor.)

Tara Luebe is hosting Writing with the Stars, which is a mentorship opportunity for aspiring picture book writers and illustrators to win a free, three-month mentorship with a published author or author/illustrator. It’s that time of year again when Amy Trueblood and Michelle Hauck host Sun vs Snow! This is not a twitter contest, but a blog contest for unpublished writers. Last year they had 21 agents participating (half shown here and the other half shown here). Keep an eye on their blogs for agent listings for this year’s contest.

Get your submission ready via email and submit when the window opens on January 23, 2018 at 4pm EST. They only take the first 200 entries, so don’t wait to long. But if you’re worried you’ll miss the entry timeframe, Michelle has a chance to win a FREE PASS on her blog via rafflecopter and comment (deadline of January 19, 2018). Get your query and first 250 words polished now!

Under The Volcano Writing Retreat

Under The Volcano has master classes over a nine day stay in Tepoztlan, Mexico. This retreat is for writers wanting to vacation, learn, and write on their WIP simultaneously. Even greater, these types of trips are tax deductible for writers. (Yes, you heard that right.)

The next session will be January 11-21, 2018 and costs $1895 (US). This fee includes:

Tuition workshops
One individual conference
Opening reception, orientation and closing dinners and one other group dinner
Daily lunches
Private faculty reading and dinner
Public readings and book signings
Village tour and other cultural events
Escorted pyramid hike
Closing dinner
