Yay! A new contest for writers. Me LOVES when writers want to help other writers! Here is what you need to know. This contest is to help you get your pitch shined for agents and editors. What you’ll need to enter is:

1. 140-character pitch. You’ve got 140 characters to grab their attention, including the #PitProm hashtag.
2. Query letter.
3. The first ten pages of your completed manuscript. (Polished and edited!)

The Royal Advisors will go through the first 200 entries to select 20 entries, consisting of ten science fiction and ten fantasy pitches. Then they will mentor those twenty writers to get their pitch, query, and first ten pages sparkly for an agent round. Submission begin August 24th, 2017 at midnight CST and will close on August 25, 2017 at midnight CST. Illustrator Feedback Opportunity

If you’re an illustrator, don’t miss this opportunity to have Sharismar Rodriguez, Associate Art Director for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt BFYR look over your illustrations and provide feedback. Published or unpublished: This is a great way to get your artwork seen. The deadline for submitting for this limited 5 week Sharismar appearance is August 20th, 2017.

Sharismar Rodriguez is an Associate Art Director for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books for Young Readers where she designs and art directs children’s books for all ages, from Picture Books to Middle Grade and YA novels and Non-Fiction volumes. She started her career in children’s publishing right after obtaining her BFA in Visual Communications from Parsons School of Design.

Pockets Fiction Contest Closing

This contest is open to stories for children of 750-1000 words. The winner is to receive $500 and publication in Pockets Magazine.  Entries must be postmarked no later than August 15, 2017.

Please indicate FICTION CONTEST on both the outside envelope and the cover sheet.

• There is no set theme and no entry fee.
• Stories should be 750–1,000 words. (Stories shorter than 750 words or longer than 1,000 words will be disqualified.)
• Stories must be previously unpublished.
• Please include an accurate word count on your cover sheet.
• Multiple submissions are permitted, but please submit only your best work.
• Past winners are ineligible.
• The winner will be announced November 1 at
pockets.upperroom.org.
• Award: $500 and publication in the magazine.
• Entries with an SASE will be returned.

Pitch Wars Submissions Are Open!

This is a quick reminder that Brenda Drake’s Pitch Wars submissions opened yesterday and will close August 6 at 10pm EDT (New York time). Go here for the guidelines and here  to submit. There are two other ways to get into the contest, a scavenger hunt  (scroll to find the info) to get a free pass into Pitch Wars and if you donate at least $20 you can pick two extra mentors. Woot! Note the participating menotrs are on the post with the scavenger hunt information. Lastly, be sure and stop by twitter to watch the #PitchWars feed because they are giving extra mentor prizes away.

Internship Opportunity for The Bent Agency

Molly Ker Hawn of The Bent Agency is looking for an intern to read young adult and middle grade fiction for her. This is a remote and unpaid internship. Her expectations are that the intern reads and reports on an manuscript every two weeks. Applicants should be familiar with all sorts of YA & MG, especially literary-commercial. Molly would like someone with knowledge of New York Time Best Sellers and has interests in authors like Katherine Rundell, John Corey Whaley, Stephanie Kuehn, Margo Lanagan, Jack Gantos, Marie Rutkoski, Naomi Novik, Jacqueline Woodson, E Lockhart, Gene Luen Yang, Libba Bray…and, of course, her own clients.

Operation Awesome: Pass or Pages

Operation Awesome is hosting a Pass or Pages this month. For this round, the category is  for contemporary romance (novels intended for adults, not YA). Submissions open between July 10 (6am EST) to  July 12 (6pm EST), 2017. This is an opportunity to get feedback from an agent on your query and first 250 words of your manuscript. Peeps, this is priceless! And as a possible bonus, the agent reserves the right to request your FULL.

Curtis Brown and Conville & Walsh’s #PitchCB on #Twitter

This Friday (June 23, 2017) will be the #PitchCB twitter event hosted by Curtis Brown Literary and Talent Agency and Conville & Walsh. These events are held on the fourth Friday of most months (so you can catch the next event if you miss this one).

In order to submit, prepare a 140 character pitch including #PitchCB hashtag for your completed manuscript. The window will be open for 24 hours and remember to only pitch once! If your pitch is “liked”, submit directly to that agent following the agencies’ submission guidelines.

#PBPitch is Tomorrow!

It’s time for another picture book twitter party using the hashtag #PBPitch! So, if you write or illustrate picture books, this is the event for you. This party will take place Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 8am-8pm EST. But remember, anyone can trawl the feed, so be sure and do your research!
