Tara Luebe is hosting Writing with the Stars, which is a mentorship opportunity for aspiring picture book writers and illustrators to win a free, three-month mentorship with a published author or author/illustrator. Mentors will help mentees further develop their craft and share invaluable advice and insight into the publishing world.

It’s that time of year again when Amy Trueblood and Michelle Hauck host Sun vs Snow! This is not a twitter contest, but a blog contest for unpublished writers. Last year they had 21 agents participating (half shown here and the other half shown here). Keep an eye on their blogs for agent listings for this year’s contest.

Get your submission ready via email and submit when the window opens on January 23, 2018 at 4pm EST. They only take the first 200 entries, so don’t wait to long. But if you’re worried you’ll miss the entry timeframe, Michelle has a chance to win a FREE PASS on her blog via rafflecopter and comment (deadline of January 19, 2018). Get your query and first 250 words polished now!

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators will open for applications to the Laura Crawford Memorial Mentorship. The mentorship was established in memory of picture book author Laura Crawford.

This year’s mentor will be author Julia Durango, who will help with one picture book manuscript for a six month period.

This contest is open to writer’s age 18 and older, who has never been published or under contract to be published with a novel. The submitted manuscript must involve murder or another serious crime or crimes at the heart of the story. The winner will be offered a standard form author’s agreement and a $10,000 advance against future royalties. Submissions must be received by 11:59pm EST on January 12, 2018.
