Miss Snark’s Secret Agent Contest

Just a quick reminder that @AuthoressAnon is hosting her Secret Agent Contest tomorrow, Monday, April 3, 2017. She is the genius behind Miss Snark’s First Victim blog, which often hosts critique events and contests to help gain a literary agent.

The submission window will be open from noon to 6pm EDT. The BOT will randomly select 50 entrants with 2 alternates. To enter, you’ll need the first 250 words from you polished and completed manuscript. (No unfinished stories, please!) This months accepted genres will be:

  • Romance (YA, NA, Adult)
  • Thriller (YA, NA, Adult)
  • Contemporary (YA, NA, Adult)
  • Time Travel (YA, NA, Adult)
  • Suspense (YA, NA, Adult)

DC Comics Writers Workshop

Wow! If you’ve ever dreamed of writing for DC Comics, this is your chance. But please note, this is for writer’s who’ve been published. However, the written work does not have to be a comic. They’ll also accept up to two published fiction works that’ll highlight an authors skill as a possible DC writer. By end of the workshop, the participant(s) may obtain a position writing on one of the DC Comic book series.

But the deadline to enter is March 31, 2017. They express on the website that files can be large to upload, so don’t wait until the last minute to try. They will not accept resubmission or changes after the deadline. No exceptions.

Picture Book Party To Get An Agent

PB_Party_for_contestHoly-moly! It’s another picture book contest. Things are looking up for the PB writers and illustrators, indeed. On March 26, 2017 Michelle Hauck and Sharon Chriscoe will  co-host a Picture Book Party. Submission will open at noon EST and will close when 250 entrants have been received. You need to have a completed and polished PB manuscript and illustrations are encouraged to be submitted (if you’re an illustrator). The agent round will be between April 5-7, 2017. Be sure to checkout the complete guidelines on the website. You can also follow helpful hints for all writers on the twitter hashtag #PBParty.

Operation Awesome: Pass or Pages

Operation Awesome is hosting a Pass or Pages contest finally this year. Woot! For this round, the category is for adult science fiction or fantasy. Submissions are open NOW from February 13-15, 2017. This is an opportunity to get feedback from an agent on your query and first 250 words of you manuscript. Peeps, this is priceless! Writer-in-Residence via Mall of America

Thanks to Sarah Vowell, I learned Mall of America is celebrating their 25th anniversary in the year 2017. As part of the celebration, they are sponsoring a Writer-in-Residence Contest to find a gifted writer to capture how much they’ve grown over the years.

According to the website, the winner will spend five days deeply immersed in the Mall atmosphere while writing on-the-fly impressions in their own words. The winner will stay at the attached hotel and receive a $400 gift card to buy food and drinks, as well as collecting an honorarium for the time put into their prose.

You don’t have to be experienced to enter, as they will take writers from all levels of writing backgrounds. Entries are open to the U.S. and D.C. Submissions are now open and end on March 10, 2017.

Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest

The deadline for Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest is approaching. All unpublished entries must be received by February 17, 2017. This is also a chance to get feedback on your work. There are twelve categories:

  1. mainstream
  2. historical
  3. romance/women’s fiction
  4. mystery/thriller
  5. sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal
  6. young adult
  7. middle grade
  8. nonfiction/memoir
  9. poetry
  10. short story
  11. children’s picture/chapter book
  12. adult short topics (articles/essays/memoir)

There are three monetary prizes:

  • FIRST PLACE: $600
  • SECOND PLACE: $300
  • THIRD PLACE: $100

Lindquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry

Submissions for the Lindquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry will be closing February 15, 2017. So, don’t delay if you want to enter. This is an annual regional prize, presented in partnership by Milkweed Editions and the Lindquist & Vennum Foundation. Submittors must currently reside in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, or Wisconsin. The submitted manuscript must be unpublished, though individual poems may have been previously published. The prize awards $10,000 and publication by Milkweed Editions. The winner is selected from a small number of finalists by an independent judge.

Past Year Memoir Contest

 

Gotham Writers want you to enter your 16-word memoir that reflects on 2016. The winner will receive a free class of choice from Gotham Writers. And writers should always be about honing the craft! Am I right?

The Details:

  • Submit a 16-word memoir (true story) that reflects on 2016.
  • Entry must consist of no more than 16 words. Longer entries will be disregarded.
  • Entries must be submitted online by midnight Eastern Time, February 20, 2017.
  • Only online entries will be accepted.
  • Entry is free. Limit one entry per person.
  • Entry must be original and unpublished.
  • Entries will be judged on originality, quality, spelling, and grammar.
