“Dear Lucky Agent” Contest

Chuck Sambuchino announced Writer’s Digest is hosting the 22nd “Dear Lucky Agent” Contest. The agent judge is ANDREA MORRISON of Writers House.

 She started as an intern for Steve Malk in the California office in 2009, and has been in love with publishing and the company ever since. In NYC, she first learned under Brianne Johnson, and then went on to assist Rebecca Sherman and Geri Thoma. For this contest, she’ll want the first 150-250 words (i.e., your first double-spaced page) of your unpublished, completed book-length work of young adult (no high sci-fi or high fantasy, please). You must include a contact e-mail address with your entry and use your real name. Also, submit the title of the work and a logline (one-sentence description of the work) with each entry.

Please note, in order to be eligible to submit, you must mention this contest twice through any social-media. The contest will be live through the end of August 24, 2016, PST. Be sure to read all the contest guidelines before entering.

Writers Digest Conference

The Writer’s Digest Conference will be held in New York August 12-14, 2016 at the New York Hilton Midtown. Chicago Writing Workshop

Per the Chicago Writing Workshop website, this writing event (May 14, 2016) is a wonderful opportunity to get intense instruction over the course of one day, pitch a literary agent or editor (optional), get your questions answered, and more. Note that there are limited seats at the event (200 total). They will inform everyone directly on the website when seats are closed.

Chuck Sambuchino of Writer’s Digest is hosting another Dear Lucky Agent Contest on February 9, 2016. This 21st edition is with Elizabeth Winick Rubinstein of McIntosh & Otis. To submit, send the first 150-250 words (i.e., your first double-spaced page) of your unpublished, completed book-length work of women’s fiction (no erotica or category romance). You must include a contact e-mail address with your entry and use your real name. Also, submit the title of the work and a logline (one-sentence description of the work) with each entry.

“DEAR LUCKY AGENT” CONTEST presented by Writer’s Digest

Sorry for the late notice, but I just learned “Dear Lucky Agent” Contest is in full swing and about to wrap up. However, the window for submission is still open. So let’s not panic people! Writer’s Digest presents this contest on the GUIDE TO LITERARY AGENTS blog by Chuck Sambuchino.

Agent Andrea Somberg from Harvey Klinger Inc. will be the judge. She will pick three winners to receive a critique of the first 10 double-spaced pages of your work and a one-year subscription to WritersMarket.com ($50 value). She reserves the right to request your manuscript for consideration to represent your wonderfulness!

• Your story must be complete and polished.
• Submit the first 150-200 words of your book.
• Submit a logline (one sentence description of the story).
• You can submit as many times as you wish. (I assume they mean more than one story.)
• Only YA fiction this time around.
