#DVpit Twitter Pitch Party Is Soon

dvpitlogo

The search for diversity within books has increased, not just with secondary characters but main characters. The world wants to see a fabulous palette of colors and cultures among the stories they read and the publishing industry is responding! This prompted literary agent Beth Phelan of The Bent Agency to create #DVpit.

According to the site, #DVpit is a twitter event created to showcase pitches about and by marginalized voices. This includes (but is not limited to): Native peoples and people of color; people living and/or born/raised in underrepresented cultures and countries; disabled persons; people with illness; people on marginalized ends of the socioeconomic, cultural and/or religious spectrum; people identifying as LGBTQIA+; and more.

The next event will spread over two days. October 5th will be for Children’s & Teen Fiction/Nonfiction (picture books, chapter books, graphic novel, middle grade, young adult). October 6th will be for Adult Fiction/Nonfiction (all genres, commercial and literary). Each day the event will run from 8am-8pm ET using the hashtag #DVpit. Be sure and pitch your manuscript on the correct day because agents/editors will search the feed on the specific day of the categories they represent/acquire.

As always, good luck!

ON THE BLOCK CONTEST

Authoress

Oh I just love literary contests that help writers sign with agents. Don’t you? Here is another great one hosted by Authoress on her blog Miss Snark’s First Victim. The contest is called ON THE BLOCK and submissions open September 8, 2016 from 8am-10pm (EDT). That’s next week peeps!

This is for polished and completed manuscripts only. Please know there is an entry fee of $21 (US) payable via Paypal. (A lot of work goes into these contests!) The contest will cap at 250 submissions, so don’t delay when the window opens. Out of those subs, only 20 entries will be chosen for the agent round. Authoress is accepting middle grade, young adult, new adult and adult fiction manuscripts only. (Sorry, no picture books, poetry, and narrative non-fiction.) Be sure to go to Miss Snark’s First Victim to find the participating agents and submission guidelines.

As always, good luck!

HarperCollins Publishers Submissions

1

Let me state for the record that I’m a firm believer in agents first and let them submit to publishers. But, there are some who want to take charge of their own careers. And kudos to you for having the guts! You’ve written a manuscript and polished it over and over and over again. (And I hope this includes several critique partners feedback and/or hiring a professional editor.) But now that you’re ready to send it out, I’ve got news for you. Did you know that HarperCollins Publishers Australia takes open submissions on Wednesdays?

WednesdayPost_Logo

Oh YES, you read that right! It’s part of their The Wednesday Post program. Click the link to go to the webpage for descriptions of what they’re looking for and a submission form (note the form will not be active if it is not Wednesday). Keep in mind they are ahead of us by several hours, so know the time zone! What you need to submit:

  •  A synopsis of your work.
  •  The first 50 pages or first three chapters of your manuscript.
  •  A short note about yourself.

As always, good luck!

#AdPit TWITTER PITCH PARTY TODAY!

I don’t write adult fiction (yet), but want to make sure any readers that do are reminded of the #AdPit Twitter party today. It’s for Adult Fiction, Adult Non-fiction, and New Adult manuscripts only. You must have a 140 character pitch that includes the #AdPit hashtag. And remember, although there are legitimate agents that have committed to dropping by, any one can troll the feed. SO DO YOUR RESEARCH before sending your manuscript or signing any contracts! Heidi Norrod is the event organizer and you can find her at @HRNorrod if you have any questions.

As always, good luck!

NEW LEAF PITCH PERFECT 2! (TWITTER PITCH)

New Leaf Literary & Media, Inc

If you haven’t seen the tweets on twitter, New Leaf Literary & Media, Inc. is hosting a twitter pitch session today starting at 4pm EST! It will end at 5pm EST. So you’ve only got an hour window to get that pitch submitted!

This isn’t like other twitter pitch contests (ex: #Pitmad or #SunvsSnow) where you pitch once every half hour, this is a one time pitch deal. So, polish up that 140 character pitch to fit the hashtag #NLpitchperfect and figure out your local starting time to correspond to the EST zone. You can check out their official post regarding the pitch event here.

As always, good luck! And my apologies for the short blog notice.
