SavvyAuthors is sponsoring a pitchfest with Sourcebooks editor, Deb Werksman starting May 8, 2019 (9am EST) and ending May 10, 2019 (11:59pm EST).

You do not have to be a member to participate. Just post your three-line pitch (less than 250 words) directly on the blog when the pitch event opens. You need a valid email to join the fun. WRITING IN THE MARGINS MENTOR PROGRAM

The Writing in the Margins is a website dedicated to helping underrepresented storied find their place. They have a Mentor Program which pairs an emerging author from a marginalized social group with an experienced editor or traditionally published author in order to work closely on preparing an unpublished manuscript to submit for publication.  All authors and editors work on a completely volunteer basis, and there is no charge to the emerging author.  Applications are open twice a year, and necessary applicant qualifications are highlighted prior to the submission period.

Applications are currently open!  Please apply by NOVEMBER 30.  The mentoring period will be in 2017 from February through April.  This time they are accepting applications from the following groups:

  • Authors of color
  • Disabled authors

Writing From Color & Native Voices Contest

According to the website, there are many paths to publication and one that has risen in popularity is online contests. (Isn’t that the truth!) The W.C.N.V. is such a contest, but also an attempt to directly combat inequality in the industry, by focusing not only on Native characters and characters of color, but authors as well. This contest will feature queries and the first 300 words of COMPLETED, POLISHED manuscripts written by native authors and authors of color. The entry window will be open from 12:00 am (midnight) Eastern June 12, 2016 until 11:59 pm Eastern that same day.
